According to industry experts the average facility is typically 90% allocated but only 49% utilized. At an average cost of $10k per desk, under-utilized space is a significant overspend for many organizations. With the growing demand for cost savings paired with today’s “war for talent”, the move to a modern workplace is rapidly becoming a core driver for organizations that are looking to optimize their portfolios and address additional pressures simultaneously. This presentation will discuss the tools and techniques required to collect, manage and understand the data needed to drive an organization's move to a modern workplace environment and achieve cost savings/avoidance, employee attraction and retention, productivity increases and employee enablement. Specifically, the presentation will dive into the three dimensions of data accuracy - historic data (floor plans), static data (badge data) and active data (real-time data). Salesforce will discuss how they view the 3 dimensions of data accuracy on their journey to a modern workplace, and the role of space planning played in moving from a base level of assignment and planning, to utilization tracking, to real-time utilization using Wi-Fi and wired data. The modern workplace presents a vast array of benefits to many organizations, however, internal buy-in can be a challenge. The presentation will review some of the most common impediments to a modern workplace move including costs, the perception of "big brother", the cultural impact of moving for a fixed office environment and how to overcome these objections.
