Radical Workplace Innovations: Navigating Disruption
Hybrid means different things to different organizations, and key to hybrid is flexibility – in time, space, and utilization. We will start by sharing survey findings from respondents with different backgrounds & experiences working in a hybrid way to evaluate their level of navigating spatial disruption and metaverse preparedness which provides awareness for leading hybrid work. The results provide insights to implement a human centric approach for a flexible workplace strategy. At the same time, the planet is burning. The EPA estimates that 12M tons of furniture ends up in landfills annually with 10M tons discarded annually in the EU. This does not include construction waste. Without an intervention, changes in working patterns will result spaces misaligned with purpose and simply more waste. Join us as we compare and contrast conventional, linear workplace delivery with an innovative approach to circular workplace delivery. ![]() Speaker(s): Celeste Tell, Senior Associate, Advanced Workplace Associates Gary Miciunas, National Workplace Director, Cuningham Group Architecture, Inc. How to Manage Narcissists, Naysayers, and Know-It-Alls
At one time or another, most of us have had the unpleasant experience of working with or working for problematic people. We may have even read a book or attended a session on “Dealing with Difficult People.” But, what if you are facing the worst of the worst when it comes to difficult people? We are not talking about the average “Negative Nellies” or “Gary Grumblers.” Those two are downright pleasant compared to these personalities. Do you have the skillset to effectively handle such people, or better yet, the techniques to weed out these bad actors during the interview phase? When it comes to destructive personalities in the workplace, Narcissists, Naysayers, and Know-It-Alls are often a chaotic and malignant force that ripples through teams and organizations. Unfortunately, many of us are woefully unprepared for encounters with this group and end up frustrated and bruised or worse as a result.

The Smart Office: Using Data to Cut Through the Noise
With so much noise surrounding the future office, it can be difficult for business leaders to know where to turn. Everyone has a theory on where work is heading, but how do you know what's right for your organization? In this presentation, Brandon Holden will explore how businesses can utilize data to make informed workplace strategy decisions. This goes beyond simply collecting occupancy data, but drills down to track how office space, from meeting rooms to individual desks, is used and at what times. Collecting, analyzing, and reporting on this data frequently can be challenging, but the upshot is that business leaders will no longer be playing a guessing game when developing a workplace strategy that meets the needs of both employees and the organization. Brandon will leave his audience with actionable insights on how they can create smart, flexible workplaces that marry technology, people, and design. Critically, this guidance will help businesses future-proof their buildings and prepare them for the ongoing workplace evolution.

Learning Lab: Are You Ready? FM’s Critical Role in Documenting and Reporting the Decarbonization of the Built Environment
Concerns over buildings' massive ecological footprints continue to mount. Buildings are responsible for 37 percent of US greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), onsite and indirect emissions. Facility managers are crucial in reducing and mitigating emissions while improving overall building operations. Stakeholders expect change and demand more significant insights through better and more accurate reporting. Join us at this critical Learning Lab at IFMA's Facility Fusion. You will gain vital insights into how you can document your decarbonization efforts (and broader Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities. Building Resilient Facilities for Business Continuity – Leadership and Strategic Imperatives
In FM, Business Continuity (BC) is often seen as being part of the Emergency Preparation and Disaster Management field connected to the Facilities and IT infrastructure. The world of BC ensures that organizations are more resilient to disruptions, that they bounce back stronger and better after a disruption. It extends to all aspects of the organization including people, financial considerations, product and service risks among others. The FM, who is often near the center of any disruption, must provide leadership in developing a strategic BC management system. Strong leadership is necessary in order to ensure that organizational-level plans are robust and resilient. Oftentimes FMs or other functional managers are responsible for their BC systems without adequate support from the C Suite. The panel will explore these aspects and how the FMs can provide strategic support and leadership including influencing the C-Suite in terms of providing its own leadership support. A Strategic Framework for FM Performance
For a CRE executive, a performance measurement framework helps them to express CRE’s contribution to enterprise strategy and shareholder value. The framework aligns strategy to KPIs and metrics and to the data (and data quality) required to support them. CRE organizations are shifting their focus from traditional, financially focused metrics that aim to drive real estate efficiency to more forward-looking metrics that focus on improving the employee experience within the workplace.

Retrofit for Sustainability: How Facility Managers Can Update Their Buildings to Achieve Net Zero
Decarbonizing operations was once revered as “nice to have” but has become a “must do.” As 50% of today’s buildings will still be in use in 2050, it’s not enough to focus on new builds. For building operators, retrofit and refurbishment projects are critical in the journey to decarbonize and must double annually to meet net-zero targets. Facility managers can become the net-zero champions of their organization. Our proven 3-step process will help you make the all-digital, all-electric transformation needed to:

Strategies for Building Occupant Buy-In of Zero Waste Initiatives; Case Studies Success Summarized with Easily Implemented Next Steps for the Facilities Manager
Zero waste initiatives are a valuable element in any facility’s carbon reduction program. While the overall carbon impact may be small compared to energy optimization, the programming is highly visible to the building occupant. Facility managers are expected to bring innovative solutions to zero waste conversations, while also justifying the monetary and convenience costs of sustainability programming. Receiving buy-in is critical; not just from decision-makers, but from the facility occupants who may not understand the long-term value of inconveniences that mindful sustainable practices may require. Successful waste management depends on occupant understanding, engagement, and buy-in. A couple of case studies will summarize successful strategies from multiple facilities, including results of a Platinum TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) certification for zero waste. Site-specific composting solutions across multiple states, competition and employee recognition, downstream waste auditing and metric reporting to establish occupant trust, and other communication tools that educate and inspire to reduce waste stream contamination will be covered.
